Wapiti: Household Almanac — Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 27, 2026

Overview

Wapiti: Household Almanac ("Wapiti", "the app") is an Android application developed by Rut Season Software ("we", "us"). Rut Season Software is an independent software studio. This policy describes what data the app collects, how it is used, and what permissions it requires.

Data We Collect

Wapiti does not collect or transmit personal data to Rut Season Software servers. All data you enter remains on your device or in your own Google account, or is transmitted directly to third-party services you configure (described below).

The app stores the following data on your device or in your Google account:

Weather API keys you enter in Settings

Google OAuth tokens for calendar and Drive access

App preferences and display settings

Google Drive App Data

Wapiti stores chore assignments, child profiles (names and assigned chores), and completion records in your private Google Drive app data folder. This data never leaves your own Google account and is only accessible by Wapiti. The drive.appdata scope grants access only to this private folder — the app cannot read, modify, or access any other files in your Google Drive.

Third-Party Services

Wapiti integrates with third-party services at your direction. When you configure a service, your device communicates directly with that service under their own privacy terms. Wapiti does not share your data with any of these services beyond what is necessary to fulfill your requests (such as fetching your calendar events or a weather forecast for your location).

If you use a weather provider that requires a location, Wapiti requests your device's location to retrieve the forecast. Location data is sent directly to the weather provider you have configured and is not stored by the app beyond the current session.

Device Administrator Permission

Wapiti includes an optional sleep schedule feature that can turn off your device's display at a scheduled time — useful for wall-mounted tablet installations. This feature uses Android's Device Administrator API, which requires you to grant Wapiti device administrator privileges.

This permission is used exclusively to lock the screen at scheduled times. Wapiti does not use this permission to wipe your device, enforce password policies, or take any other administrative action. You can revoke administrator access at any time in Settings → Security → Device admin apps on your Android device.

The sleep schedule feature is entirely optional and disabled by default. Wapiti will explain this permission and request your explicit approval before activating it.

Children's Privacy

Wapiti is designed for household use and may display information about minors (such as a child's name and chore assignments). All such information is entered by the adult user, stored in the adult user's Google Drive app data folder, and never transmitted to Rut Season Software.

Data Retention and Deletion

App preferences and API keys are stored locally on your device and can be deleted via Android Settings → Apps → Wapiti → Clear Data. Chore data stored in Google Drive app data can be deleted by revoking Wapiti's access in your Google Account → Security → Third-party apps, or by uninstalling the app and clearing its Drive app data. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. The current version will always be available at https://www.rutseasonsoftware.com/privacy-policy. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
